Looking for Apple II Gurus- Appleworks Help

I have an Appleworks data disk from high school that I really want to load on my old Apple IIc.

I can load the program and put my data disk in, and it lists my data file, but when I try to load it, the drive starts running then stops, and the system seemingly locks up with the message "getting this file" still on the screen.

Is it possible that the IIc is not quite compatible? The file and disks were originally used on a IIe, and it's Appleworks 2.0.

When I read in all my Atari 800 5.25" floppies I had to leave the top off the drive. Every few disks I had to clean the heads.
    sig files are for morons
