    Re: Counterfeit Samxons

    I don't have (any) experience with failed Panasonic caps to judge if I should recap them or not.

    If I could get a copy of FL specs, that would help the decision. I note the FJ ESR is high. For example, the 6.3v/1000uF in 8mm:

    FJ = 30 ESR
    GA = 14 ESR
    MCZ = 18 ESR (10v)

    There are 14 of these caps on the MSI board. I stock the MCZ in 10v, but could order sufficient GA if the lower ESR warrants replacement.

      Re: Counterfeit Samxons

      .030 on the FJ is not high.
      MBZ 820uF 6.3v ESR=.036
      MBZ 1200uF 6.3v ESR=.028
      The 1000uF FJ is right in there with MBZ and that's not high.

      FL 1000uF 16v 8x20mm ripple=1870, ESR @+20C 100Khz = .016, 3000 hours
      FL 1800uF 6.3v 8x20mm ripple=1870, ESR @+20C 100Khz = .016, 3000 hours

      Those two at least match FJ series exactly.
      Data is from old ad.
      I have no other info on FL.

              Don't worry, the chairman and his wife never involve production and sales before, now still not.

                Seems to be family-held, so I guess continuity of operations/policy will not be affected. RIP, Mr. Chan, and best wishes to Eugene and his mom to build further on the good work started by Mr. Chan.

                  just found those in an external PSU brick...

                  replaced them preemptively with Sanyo WG (because i read about tons of bad GLs here)

                    There is no any data sheet on Samxon capacitors series charts, may be it is old series and already stopped production for a long time. Chart ---> http://www.samxon.com/samxon_series_chart.html

                      Re: Counterfeit Samxons

                      hmm..

                      weid thing is that this power brick has been recapped this year (2008).
                      primary cap and the secondaries have been replaced.
                      at least thats what was written under the label on the back..
                      unfortunately there's no exact date written on it. so it could've been anything between Jan. 2008 to Nov. 2008 (got it in early december..with an LCD, but didn't need it at first..).

                      either that guy (?) who did this used stone-old caps, or those GLs are fakes (?)

                      no idea..

                      if only the shipping wouldn't be that expensive, i could send them to someone from here for further examination (esr and stuff..)..

                      edit: what about that datecode? C8 = march 2008 ? march 1998 ?!
                      or without that "C" because it's from the °C rating..!?
                      would be quite unusual to use only a year as a marking...
                      i don't know how to "decrypt" that one ..

                        Thank you for your information. I have asked Man Yue directly, they never produce GL series in their histroy, so i trust GL is fake Samxon.

                        On the other hand, please check there is any other code printing on body? Like my photo "VOA"? It is date code for Samxon capacitors. Also, would you please check this GL series you pull from what kind of power supply?

                        Actually, C8 is code for radial type only.
