    The first Samxon iMac G5

After quite a wait from Samxon, I finally got some 1800uF 6.3v 10x16 GC series samxon caps. These are the proper caps needed to recap a G5 to OEM specs, and here's the first ever G5 that's been fully recapped in Sammies.

Alright, I know....nothing remarkable compared to the polymodding adventures with the G5's a couple months ago, but I did think this was worth mentioning. This is a 20" first generation, which I'll keep around here as an internet terminal out in the shop to test these. I've seen these systems cook Rubycon, UCC, and Sanyo caps (never seen one capped in Panasonics), so it'll be interesting to see how long the samxons will live in these roaster ovens for cases....

    Anyway, a few pics:

not to offend, but you seem to be playing around with macs way more these days... that said, they are the poster childs of recapping saving money 9along with usff units).

i BET that they will keep up with rubys and the like... you should put a poll on this thread on whether they will cut the mustard or not...

I'm sure they'll cut the mustard, or I'd have just polymodded it....but the question is for how long compared to other lytics. I had to test this!! I'll put this machine in my workroom, and it'll never be shut off. it will go to sleep after 20 minutes idle, but a couple years of that should tell us how big of a bite Samxon can take out of Apple (pun intended).

FWIW, this was my last spare G5, I have no more....unless I stumble on some more.... I've really grown to like OSX, and not ashamed in the least compared to Win7.

i still like my ubuntu better, but mac os has gone up a spot in my book over xp... never used 7, hated vista.

i would not pay full price for a mac, but i would take one any day... as long as it was not os 9 or lower

Are they really that poorly constructed that if just running idle with the LCD in standby they will fail in just a few years with Japanese known good caps?
I thought people bought Apple's because of their purported better stability vs PC's

                    btw, i'm 49th...

You should see a modern GPU folding. I tried it with my Radeon 4850.

                      VROOOOOOOOM!!!
