Do you think there is a market for another email provider?

Sure, there are tons of email providers.
However, I've found that most of them have the same cluttered and disorganized interface.
Sure, it's the standard interface for email,
but just because that's the way it's always done doesn't mean that's how it has to be done.
If I could make a really clean interface, a really reliable core, a short and easy to remember domain name, with decent security, do y'all think it would be possible to get another email provider off the ground?

I've noticed there are 3 that people usually use:
-Gmail
-Yahoo! Mail
-Hotmail

All three suck IMO, but Gmail sucks the least, lol!

Plenty of reasons I personally don't do that.
But that's really not the question, sorry.

I don't use any of those 3....and my main email accounts I use are all pop3.

I use gmail via IMAP... POP is useless if you have multiple computers you use... POP only works right if you use one, one, and only one computer for non-webmail email.

Or tell the client not to delete messages from the server, than any machine you want can access the same info via pop...

That's also one of the reasons I use pop3 though.....I do all my emailing from one machine... I have no need for it to be scattered amongst a bunch of other ones....just creates mess and disorganization.

good point... but why pop over IMAP?

whith your method, that also means your mail neve4r gets deleted fromt he server, which as pros and cons.

I personally like the imap concept better and have had no issues with imap.

I have no beef with imap....I've just always used pop....and I guess it's what I'm used to. Both are useful for sure.

Many email clients handle IMAP very incompetently. Not enough enraged user feedback to get it right. POP works and the behavior is tolerable to humans.

There are good email services. They apparently haven't sold themselves to you. This is the problem you're going to face. It doesn't matter how terrible GY & H is. They have mindshare and that's what matters, so much so that their customers stick with them no matter how much they get abused.

-evolution (linux)
-windows live mail (windows)
-apple mail (mac OS)

None have ever had problems with imap...
