??? WHY???? I've heard of brute force troubleshooting, but that seems extreme. In any case, that is not the problem. If you look at the schematic in this post you will find the resistor. I'm not sure why they put it in there, but it is across the AC line, and is very likely to be a very high value resistor.

I suggest two alternative approaches to getting this monitor working. (OK, I'd like to suggest three, but I doubt you would fall for the "Send it to me, I'll fix it and send it back when I'm through with it" line.)

    1. You can read all the posts in this thread, and the other threads on the 245BW, and follow the troubleshooting steps. EVENTUALLY you will find the problem.

    2. With the schematic, this is a fairly easy power supply to troubleshoot. Take a picture of the top side of the board and another of the bottom side. Make them as close to 2000 x 2000 pixels as possible without going over. You did a good job on the picture you posted, so this should be easy.

I will make suggestions of where to measure, and explain WHY. Other (smarter) people may chime in with other suggestions. They will probably result in your getting the monitor working quicker.

As the first point to measure, what is the voltage across CP803 (the large capacitor). I start there on 'no power' situations because it's about midway through the standby supply, and if the voltage is normal, tells me everything up to that point is good.

Ok I have seen that and it is FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL and doesn't indicate what resistance each resistor is.

I have already done the testing and located 2 bad resistors, I cannot positively ID one of them. I want to replace them all and get it over with, all the caps were replaced already.

Glad to hear it. I could use a report of success after the past week.

Just wanted to say a massive thanks to PlainBill and Bonney (and everyone else on this thread who either helped with info or provided confidence to give it ago with your success stories) - In my case it was RB805 and the fix was only 26p + postage. The only thing I would mention is that for getting the back cover off without damage or tools - I found that the corner with the small arrow moulded into the plastic (bottom right as you look at the rear of the monitor) was the easiest place to start ... using one hand to squeeze the corner in and the other pulling up inside the case where the display connectors are ...with a little jiggle the case opened up pretty easily.

              Hi all,

a while ago i posted the schematic from the power supply. (drawn by my own)
I asked to give me backup information about values and partnumbers.

I have make a mistake by the voltage on the marked point M and B

This must be 392V instead of 292V
              Here is the newer version.

              Any additional information is welcome.

WOW! that must have been a lot of work,And it was very helpful to me.

I have noticed a discrepancies in the schematic, off of pin 10 of F922l, DM801 is shown on the power supply schematic however it was not on the power supply I was working on
Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

                      Hi Guys,

I seem to have the same issue as many others, with the display not firing up.

Could anyone recomend the most suitable replacement for the RB605 resistor that seems to be the most common issue.

                      Many thanks

                      Lewis

Hey guys... Just wanted to say thanks!
Had the same issue as many others with the blue led acting as if the screen was working but black screen.. Got the multimeter out and sure enough the RB805 resistor was dead, went to the store and got some new ones rated for 2watts, popped em in there and it works like a charm again!

Cant see any marks what so ever on the dead one...

                        Thanks again!

                          Re: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW

                          My story mirrors rulleeeee.
I discovered this thread about a month ago when my Syncmaster 245BW refused to wake up one day.
I had only the blue power light on and nothing else.
Googling the model of my monitor brought up this thread.

All I can say is THANK YOU! to all the "gurus" here.
This is an amazing web site and even to the complete electronics newb that I am, I managed to make some notes and was pretty certain that when I opened up the monitor I would discover some toasty resistors. Indeed, I did.
RB805 was very crispy and with the help of my electronics-wiz brother(who I visited a month after my 245BW died - as he lives 2000 km away) and his multi-tester we discovered it was open. I decided to replace all 3 resistors since they were only a couple bucks for 4(2 packages of 2) of them even though RB806 and RB807 tested fine.
We replaced them with 68 ohm 2Watt resistors and I am sitting here using my resurrected 245BW that has a new lease on life.

I still can't believe 3 dollars and change and about 10 minutes in repair time has saved me 4 or 5 hundred dollars that I would have spent replacing my monitor with a comparable, new 1920 x 1200 resolution display.

Even though my brother did the actual soldering, I feel confident that I could have done it myself thanks to all the good information here on this site.

Thanks again to PlainBill and all the longtime members here for writing clear and easy to understand instructions that even an inexperienced electronics user like myself could understand!

I have tried to order these resistors just the way they are described above as 68 ohm 2 watt resistors and cannot find any matches. what if anything am I missing? I have matched the color codes and it comes up with 69 ohms but is 1/4 1/8 or 1/5 ?? Help please

Where are you looking? The originals are clearly blue, gray, black, gold, or 68 ohm, 5%. Discerning wattage isn't easy because rulleeeee doesn't have a ruler tattooed on his palm, but I won't disagree with 2 watt.

From DigiKey, I find the following matches in stock. All except the Vishay are flameproof.

                              P68W-2BK-ND Panasonic ERG-2SJ680 @ $0.35

                              RSMF2JT68R0CT-ND Stackpole RSMF2JT68R0 @ $0.43

                              PPC68W-2CT-ND Vishay PR02000206809JR500 @ $0.54

                              68W-2-ND Yageo RSF200JB-68R @ $0.33

eBay auction 230627955112 has 10 pieces of 68 ohm, 3 watt resistors for $2.98, including shipping.

Do yourself a favor; Google standard resistor values. Several colors can be hard to distinguish, but any resistor with color bands WILL conform to the standard values.

Hey, I was hoping someone here can help me. My Samsung 244t is starting to go. It takes about 15 seconds to turn on, but the bigger problem is a really annoying hum. The hum gets louder and quieter when I change the brightness up and down(it sometimes gets quieter after 30 minutes or so but still really noticeable).

There are 3 capacitors that are bulging so I am hoping that replacing them will fix the problem. I tried following a guide on here but I cant find the right replacement caps.
                                      I need:
                                      1x 1000uf 25v 10mm x 20mm
                                      1x 2200uf 10v 10mm x 25mm
                                      3x 1000uf 35v 13mm x 20mm

The measurements are not exact but should be close enough. Total clearance is 25mm.

                                      Thanks in advance.

First of all, at least one cap (probably several caps) is missing from that list. It is STRONGLY recommended you replace all caps in the power supply with the possible exception of the large (100uF, 450 Volt) one. I've spent far too many hours chasing problems caused by a bad 47uF, 50V cap.

                                        For 1x 1000uf 25v 10mm x 20mm use Digikey P12379-ND Panasonic EEU-FM1E102

                                        For 1x 2200uf 10v 10mm x 25mm use Digikey P14382-ND Panasonic EEU-FR1A222L

Hi everyone. I am joining the party late but after trying to read this thread from the first post to the last, I changed direction about 6 pages in and decided to read from last to first.

Inspired by rulleeeee's success, and knowing I too had a burnt RB805, I just ordered a trio of replacements and hope to have the same result. I'll post my outcome.

This site is awesome. I have already enjoyed a successful rebuild of a 400W Samsung PS for an old PowerMac G4 based on input from this site. I am psyched to gear up and reclaim my 245BW from the grave.

                                          ;-)
