    Sharp lc-42sb45u power issue

Ok. I was recently given a broken television for a project. It is a 42" Sharp lc-42sb45u. The guy who gave it to me said the tv would work for a little while and randomly shut itself down. After I picked it up and got it home, I plugged it in to test it. When I plugged it in and tried to turn it on, nothing happened.

I checked the cord, and the connection to the tv and the wall. What should I do next?

Do you have a digital multimeter, and a camera?

I'm pretty sure I have one out in my toolbox, and as far as a camera goes I have one on my phone (galaxy s5)

OK could you remove the back cover of the TV and get us some clear photos of all of the boards inside the set. I use an S4 to take my photos so the S5 should be at least as good. Just make sure to get them in focus. A photo of your meter will also help.

sorry for the delay. I got caught up between work and fire calls I havent had a chance to mess with it too much. Anyway heres the pictures.

          My Multimeter

          Main board

          Power Supply

          Controller Board?

And lastly the board behind the buttons, not sure what its called

I used my multimeter last night and tested the resistance across the fuse above the power port. It tested at 6.5 so im assuming the fuse is good.

Your 3rd photo shows the power supply. Is that large capacitor closest to the upper right wiring harness domed?

                  Re: Sharp lc-42sb45u power issue

One is already bad, you might as well replace them as a set including those on the inverter board (CMO).

                          Try this:

                          http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sharp-LC42SB...item4d06c815df

Be sure to compare the capacitor values in the listing to the ones that are actually on your board. If there are differences, notify the seller and see if they will substitute the correct value.

TBH I'd just get the caps from Digikey or if Topcat (site admin) stocks them, from badcaps.net store. It'll be cheaper and you'll be certain you're getting good, high quality replacements. If you need help choosing the right ones just ask.

I looked into them on the sites store. I have 2700uF 16volt caps on the board now but they are not listed in the master catalog.

Use 3300uF 16V will be fine, 2700uF isnt a hugely popular value.....

okay! =) thank you. Also I noticed on the board that there are 4 capacitors but 1 of them is shorter than the other ones. Will that make a difference?

Also, 3300uF in a 16v are not listed on the sites store either. If i were to get them through digikey, which type would I need?

Not really, just match the component values reasonably closely.
