    Infamous Gateway FPD2185W

So heres another one stranger symptoms than the rest
picked up this monitor for free and would love to experiment and learn so it lead me to this forum.
firstly, had the blue led no power symptom, cracked it open and the psu caps were all blown. recapped them with 8 local suncon 470uf 25v.
i now get power, the gateway logo flashes and the back light goes off.
iv'e read around can't seem to figure out what would be causing this.

Im new take it easy on me i have only ever fixed a broken garmin gps usb port lol.

    thanks in advance - joe.

edit: would it be worth it to replace the bigger 68uf 450v caps as well as the 3 on the logic board they all seem fine by visual inspection.

    1) This is better suited posted in

Badcaps Forums > Electronics Theory and Troubleshooting > Troubleshooting Computer Displays

    2) It sounds like you have 2 seconds to black.

2 seconds to black can be

    a) bad caps
    b) bad ccfls
    c) bad ccfl wiring (especially the return wiring)
    d) bad secondary windings on the inverter transformer

More details starting with post #19 at

You did not replace the other two by the output section? 10 total in the cold side.

"recapped them with 8 local suncon 470uf 25v" Unless I did not read your post correctly, since there also two 220/25V caps on the PS/INVERTER board secondary side.

                  Hello Njoe!

Have you been able to fix your problem? If so, what did you do/replace? I have the same exact problem and it is driving me insane. I don't have a meter and I wouldn't know how to properly use one if I did have one. I am however, capable of replacing the components on the board.

The absolute minimum you need is a meter..to test the inverter transformer secondaries. If you spend some time going through the site(not just your model monitor) you will see this is a common problem.
