Replacing the vertical output caps is a good place to start.

Also check the supply voltage to the vertical IC.

The vertical deflection shrinks after the set warms up?

That's a switch.

dieing v out chip.
bad tuner grounds.
if vertical shrinks and it gets snowy too its just the tuner grounds.
i use 2% silver solder.you need a good hot iron too.get all the points that go to the shields too.
wash out the flux.
put your original eeprom back in to save you the setup work.its not the issue here.

supply voltage to the vertical IC pin 2 on the TDA8172 is 24V

just change c4505 but no luck still the same

the other cap I'm going to have to buy it online.

don't know other place that sells them other than radio shack
the solder that i'm using is opne from Radio Shack #64-013

thanks.

Read KC's post.

If its a dying Vertical output IC purchase some freeze spray (they sell it at Ratshack) power up the TV and wait until the vertical deflection shrinks then blast the IC with the spray if it reverts to normal replace the vertical output IC.
