Post Shipping Trouble?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has had issue with shipping of computer products or other things?
I'm curious since I recently received a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop that had a warped battery compartment and a troublesome motherboard.... looking at the box it came in, it doesnt look too good.
The box looks as if someone stepped on it in one corner and the bottom looks as if it was smashed against a square pole of some sort.
I notified Dell and they say that they will probably send me another unit, but first they have to deal with the shipping company.

Anyone have experiences with shipping trouble?

Thanks.

SGI 21" monitor arrived and had cracked body panels and looked just plain awful.
Good thing I got insurance. $60 to ship, insurance paied out $100
I have seen boxes arrive that look like they got skewered with a pole.

Normally I'd say no problem at all with shipping in or out, but all bets are off during the holidays.

humm well not the voice of experience on this but hopefully Dell is big enough to realize its shipping damage (from what you say) and claim it on insurance.

When you see how some of this stuff gets handled with these shipping companies you can well understand how it got damaged
(this is why I pack and pack again, bubble box macaroni box with fragile stuff )

Where you may have a problem is that you accepted it and signed for it I guess...

I think and I am not sure on this....

You should have refused to accept the delivery and got on the blower to Dell straight away about it.

This is provided the damage was visible to you when the driver delivered it.

Ideally you should open a package to check the goods but most drivers are going to get real peeved if you do so most people don't bother.

I would fore arm yourself by looking at dell's shipping policy and also the company that delivered it to you, their policy as well.
(some companies don't have insurance on items unless you pay for it, although I couldn't see Dell shipping uninsured)

Hope Dell do the right thing by you thought and send you a replacement unit.

BTW if they try the "lets fix it" path, be nice but refuse that option.
Check your rights under consumer affairs in Oz

Seems like a lot of companies both mfg's and retailers try to get out of there responsibilities to the customers here in oz.

Know your rights...

But I do really hope they do the right thing by you

Others here would have better advice...or may have been down your road

Yeah, i'm quite unlucky all the time with computers and electronics.... I just have to live with it.

Every single motherboard i've had seem to just die out for no apparent reasons.... No abuse whatsoever, they just die or don't work properly.

Just last week i returned 2 Gigabyte Motherboards, one that made a funny beeping noise on boot if the BIOS was set to boot from HDD (This is the third motherboard in that system.... the other ones all had issues and needed a replacement!), the second Gigabyte board in another system showed a random CMOS checksum error even though i already changed the PSU and battery!.... now i'm down to using this recapped IBM Netvista 6266.... 800MHz is a little.... slow but it works.

This Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop has had 4 motherboards replaced because the fan went into high speed sometimes for no reason.... even when it was freezing cold!, 2 screen replacements because of some stupid green dots that won't go away, a palm rest replaced because the technician that came to fix my laptop somehow screwed up my touchpad and front panel controls and 2 AC adaptor replacements because the laptop was hissing when an AC adaptor was used.

I was half asleep at 8:30AM when i received the package so i didnt bother to look for the damage on it. But Dell is still sorting it out up in Malaysia. They say i'll get a replacement system, just as long as Toll Logistics Australia pays up for the damage.

I hope it turns out well....

Success!!

I got a call from Dell today and they said that they will send me another replacement unit to replace the current replacement unit. I hope that my laptop won't be abused again this time.

i had a customer ignore my packing instructions and sent a sgi 24" flat crt wrapped in 1 wrap of bubblewrap and stuffed tight in a too small box.reduced a $1700 at that time unit junk.
"your instructions were too much work"
they turned a $100 repair into a total writeoff for themselves.
had ups take it back with them and i even noted it was improperly packed by the customer.

Good to Hear Adphan50 hope you have much better luck with this one

my advise was really worse case type thing, good to see they did the right thing by you
( and some people do have to go to these extremes...sadly)

kc8adu...how much grief did they try and give you?

yep some people amaze me at times
$1700 to trash cause its too much work to pack it properly

Hope you don't get too many like that mate

Thanks starfury1,

I hope the next laptop that comes during next week doesn't end up like this one.
This time i will definitely check the box for damage.... hopefully this time the box will be fine and the laptop itself will work properly.

Thanks.
