Alright, my family bought a 42" Hitachi 42hds69 back in Nov. 2008, it worked fine for a few months and then it started having problems with the screen turning off but not the sound, they took it and had the panel replaced i think, or some 500$ part. a month later the problem started happening again, it works perfectly when you turn it on but around 2-3mins later the screen turns off the sound doesnt, the only way to get it to turn back on is to let it sit for awhile but it still randomly turns off, sometimes it will go a few minutes or even all day. could it be the capacitors causing this?

$500 for a part that only last 1 month? Any warranty for the replacement part?

That could sound like capacitors but the time frame is too short. Few bad caps are so bad that they go within a few months... twice in a row. Most last at least until the warranty runs out.
With some board pictures we can look for caps and other interesting plasma type stuff. It would help if you can find the receipt that says what was replaced. |

He could have replaced the PSU, Ysus or Zsus board. Hopefully he wrote on the receipt what he replaced, because any of those 3 could be failing, though I suspect Ysus or Zsus because the sound stays on, but that's not necessarily the case.
Have you noticed: Does the panel last longer when it's cooler in the house? How about using a fan on the back of the panel? Try cooling the left, center, and right of the panel to see which helps the most. |

I don't want to pour salt on the wound, but here in Canada, I can buy a brand new 42 inch 720p name brand (like Samsung, LG, etc) plasma for $600 CDN (or close to $700 with all the taxes).
If you buy from Costco, you get 2 year warranty or you can extend the warranty with a credit card. Yes, post pics and circle or point out what he changed. Quote:

Haven't been able to get it open it has some weird screws, i don't think its the temp cause it worked all day today the top of the tv stayed pretty hot and it just shut off a few minutes ago, sound is still on.. but sometimes i can leave it off for 3 days and it will turn off in just a few minutes.. pretty sure it wasn't the PSU, Ysus or Zsus board my aunt seems to think he replaced the actual screen itself..
