    DIY Capacitor Discharge Tool

Would anyone know a proper capacitor discharge tool for motherboards made from resistors? I've searched Google but there's alot of them. I'd just like to know a PROPER ohm/resistor for the tool.

    Thanks!

shorting them with a screwdriver never fails.......but honestly, I've never seen a motherboard cap hold a charge enough to actually require being discharged...nor is there enough voltage present for it to ever be a safety issue...

      Agree.
      Don't need one for mobos.
The caps all have discharge paths.
Even if they didn't 12v won't do much more than get your attention.
(Inside the power supplies is a different story..)

If you just HAVE to have one anyway here's a way to make one.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
I followed the instructions in reverse order and all I got was a resistor and some wire. Getting those leads reattached to the resistor was difficult...

How do you solder backwards and get the solder back to being wire?
          .
Do you use ice to unshrink the tubing?
          .

I just lol'ed who came up with those directions.

I have heard of using a standard 60w or a 100w light bulb before, not sure if the voltage is too high what would happen.
