    Building a Mouse Zapper

What I have is a dc 9 volt power pack

    pringles can
with 2 separate sheets of foil

one side hooked up with a 450v cap

the other is just straight to the power pack.

Will this work or is there more I need to be doing?

You'll need something to boost the voltage. 9VDC won't do much of anything. Remember the 450v rating on the cap is its maximum working voltage (the voltage it can handle before it fails) the actual voltage delivered is determined by the input voltage if you put 9V into a cap you get ~9V out, the design of the circuit and other components determine the voltage delivered, not the caps themselves..

      didn't think of that.

Now so what would boost it to 450v?

I'm thinking you need to build a array of something to step it up?

Depending on what mains voltage is, couldn't you just plug it into the wall socket?

You can use the flash circuit from a disposable camera, but beware!
It will charge up the cap to around 300 volts!
Also make sure to get the polarity correct, or the cap might explode on you.
The flash circuit usually runs on 1.5-3V, so powering it with 9v might kill it.
When you take the flash apart make sure to take the battery out without touching and circuits, then short the capacitor leads with something conductive to discharge the capacitor.

I ended up just using a different method one that I don't need to reset.

But I think I got all the mice out of my house because I haven't found any in the bucket.

how to build a mouse zapper:

hook a high voltage transformer to its PS2 plug

I also heard about the rat zapper a couple of years ago. I also heard about the Bounce sheets on the Owners Group. If it works I'm there. I finally got rid of the mice with humane traps; they worked better than the sticky traps overall. Rats can't fit into them though and not all sticky traps are not equal. So if i make my own tap, it will work well?
