Re: Tannoy Reveal 6D

Could be a few things.

Don't forget the DIL switches as they can go intermittent. Just flicking them up and down a few times seems to clear them for a while. (At least a year in my case).

Re: Vox mini 3 amp

That is possible although the current consumption would likely increase which may or may not be an issue depending on battery life.
All been discussed here previously.

Re: Tannoy Reveal 6D

Hi,

Yep, I did see that one at Farnell. If you look closely you'll see that it's US stock only and it's £15.95 delivery charge to the UK!!

Hope you get yours sorted. You'd think there must be...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp

Hi Vidji,

I always like to share knowledge if it helps somebody as some day hopefully someone will do the same for me.

As I've stated previously I would warn against anyone trying to repair...

Re: LG HT33S - Loud High Pitch Tone

Silly me,
I should have played the youtube sound in your first post.
It's definitely not a failing PSU noise as this was due to the oscillator whining. In your case you have some audio tone being...

Re: LG HT33S - Loud High Pitch Tone

I can remember some time ago one particular make of PSU giving quite a loud high pitched whine when it was due to pack up.
This was invariably due to a low value cap in the oscillator cct drying up....

Re: KICKER DX250.1 Direct Short on Pos & Neg Power Wires? Why?

In my experience it does usually come down to shorted FETs, sometimes visually blown apart sometimes not. There's not normally much else on the power rails that would cause such a drastic s/cct, main...

Re: KICKER DX250.1 Direct Short on Pos & Neg Power Wires? Why?

Zinda, if you're serious about trying to fix this then the last thing I would do is try to shove more power in to it!
All you will likely achieve is burning up the copper tracks and or board and...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp

That is the most common fault (so far), sound OK out of the phone jack but not the speaker. Most amps derive the headphone output from the main output device but these don't.
I've only ever seen one...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp

Hi Piwi,

I assume that was the last lot sold on Ebay?
I was watching it but didn't bid. Still you've got a good deal there I think.

As for the daughter boards, the project is on hold for the...

Re: Triton shower intermittent low pressure

My eyesight is definitely getting worse. I didn't spot that.

Still it's working fine at present so I'll leave it until the warmer weather. Lets hope it doesn't throw a wobbly till then!

As for...

Triton shower intermittent low pressure

Here's a good one.

My electric shower has been playing up for quite a long time and getting worse. The low pressure warning light would come on for no reason and switch off the heat. In this cold...

Not sure what the model number is but I think they are colloquially named 'Shoebox' PC's?
The large caps are all Chemicon KZG and one...

Hi Jack,

Is it just the photo or do the main smoothing caps look like their tops are bulging?

There appears to be 7 registers that are adjustable or at least that's how many I've found.

Numeric keys 5, 6 and 0 are adjusted by keys 2, 3 and 4 respectively and they only shift in...

Re: APC smart ups 600i

Hi,

No, nothing like that. Mine's really old, early 90's I reckon. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow.

Managed to register on APC's site now so if I get any feedback there I'll post it here...

Re: Open Reel Dokorder 1140 recap - help needed!

I didn't look at those big caps closely enough!!
It does appear that they aren't for PSU smoothing especially one only being 0.5uF. Maybe they are used to control the motors if they are driven on...

Re: Open Reel Dokorder 1140 recap - help needed!

Hi,
I just love all this old gear. At least it's repairable not like most modern stuff!

I would sort out the hum first as this is most likely due to the supply capacitors drying up. Of course...
