yea, chevy smallblock is not known for these issues.
is it *really* gone, or are the bolts loose?
just wondering because if nobody ever torqued them properly they could theoretically work loose on...

filter caps should always be metered before touching them,
i'v also had stuff in for repair that showed chaged filter caps after days - maybe even weeks since the customer unplugged it.

the acbel foto in the start of the thread had loads of cracked solder joints including on the opto.

build quality isnt what it used to be on fluke stuff,
they are known for failing display panels and the rotary switch is a weak point on most meters as they get older.

i'd recommend just getting...

i think when you pulled the transformers, you should have fitted DC blocking output caps.

i'v not seen a power amp before that pretty much connects the speaker directly to the power via not much...

i suspect it's using a ptc,
but either way, i'd try replacing any op-amps.
and inspect the entire board too - after seeing in mine, i would never trust one of these Aoyue type units without a full...
